Three Carey Students in Miss Mississippi Pageant
Hattiesburg, Miss., June 7, 2012 - Three William Carey University students will compete in the 2012 Miss Mississippi pageant in Vicksburg June 27-30.
The students include Miss William Carey University Kenna Spiller, Miss Riverbend Julie Falgout, and Miss Pine Belt Shelby Ryals.
Spiller, a sophomore elementary education major from Petal, will present her platform of “Smiling Through Scoliosis,” which is designed to educate young children and teenagers about the disease. Her talent is playing the piano.
Falgout, a senior psychology major from Hattiesburg, has a platform of “Humanizing the Homeless,” which involves fundraising for those in need and raising awareness about homeless issues. Her talent is dancing.
Ryals, a junior biology major from Sumrall, will present her platform of “Mission: Nutrition,” which she hopes will help teach others how to care for their bodies nutritionally in order to prevent disease. Her talent is singing.
The three students will compete against 39 other contestants for the crown. The Miss Mississippi title brings with it various scholarships, prizes, and opportunities to promote the winner’s platform. The winner will also compete for the title of Miss America in January 2013.
