WCU’s Ph.D. in Nursing ranked No. 5 nationwide

William Carey University’s Ph.D. in Nursing program has earned a No. 5 national ranking from RegisteredNursing.org in its 2023 assessment.

RegisteredNursing.org is a national advocacy organization. According to its website, they believe in providing students with all the information possible to make the right choice when selecting a nursing program.

With this in mind, they study nursing programs to analyze what makes them stand out against the pack – using data sources like the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, National Center for Education Statistics, and U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Postsecondary Education.

“What an exciting honor. We at Carey believe our innovative methods that allow students to complete this education- and administration-focused research doctorate in two or three years help address the severe nursing faculty shortage,” said Dr. Janet Williams, WCU vice president for the College of Health Sciences.

“Our faculty has created learning experiences which prepare our graduates for advancement in all fields of nursing education.”

William Carey’s Ph.D. in nursing is a hybrid program – a combination of online instruction and periodic in-person meetings.

WCU Ph.D. graduates in nursing currently lead their field as nursing school deans, full professors in nursing programs across the nation, and vice presidents of hospital nursing departments. Ph.D. nursing graduates also currently serve as national education director for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and president of a state board of nursing.

“Our program was judged based on many factors, including methodology, variety of nursing offerings, completion rates, and experienced faculty. This is a wonderful honor for William Carey University – and I’m proud of our faculty, students, and staff,” said Dr. Alicia Newell, dean of the WCU School of Nursing.

Dr. Jenna Barton is coordinator of WCU’s graduate nursing program: “Our program is flexible for the working nurse and its accelerated and efficient timeframe enables students to contribute to the profession of nursing at the highest educational level.”
