Carey alumna named to federal posting at HUD
Dr. Kourtney Hollingsworth has been named to a federal position at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington, D.C. Hollingsworth is the agency’s new Lead Civil Rights Analyst, Lead Investigator and Lead Equal Opportunity Specialist.
HUD is responsible for addressing housing needs, fair housing opportunities, and improving and developing U.S. communities.
A native of Laurel, Miss., Hollingsworth is a three-time alumna of William Carey University. She earned a master’s degree in business administration in 2008. In 2016 and 2017, Hollingsworth earned a pair of education degrees, an education specialist degree and a doctoral degree in higher education administration.
She credits current or retired WCU instructors for preparing her to compete successfully on an international level for leadership positions – Dr. Jalynn Roberts, Dr. Willie Pierce, Dr. Jeannie Lockley and Dr. Eugene Owens.
“We are so proud of alumna like Dr. Hollingsworth. She serves as a model for youth from Laurel and South Mississippi. She has distinguished herself in the educational arena and has reached the top in her professional achievements,” said WCU president Tommy King.
Hollingsworth also holds bachelor’s and specialist degrees from Mississippi State University.
A professional and community leader, Hollingsworth has been recognized with many state and national awards. She is one of the youngest people ever selected for Leadership Mississippi and Leadership Jones County and was awarded the key to the City of Laurel. In 2013, Hollingsworth was inducted in the William Carey University Alumni Hall of Fame.
