Medical students receive $40K scholarships

During Honors Day Convocation, William Carey University President Dr. Tommy King awarded two unexpected scholarships to students of the College of Osteopathic Medicine. The annual ceremony took place April 24 at Thomas Fine Arts Auditorium, Hattiesburg campus.
Kisha Burgess of Miami, Fla., a third-year medical student, received the $40,000 James Turner Scholarship, funded by the Joel and Lois McKenzie Trust to support her fourth year of study. Her scholarship is named in honor of retired WCUCOM Dean Dr. James Turner.
Steven Burkett of Ovett, a second-year medical student, received a $40,000 Joel and Lois McKenzie Trust Restricted Scholarship to be received during his third and fourth years of study.
