William Carey University has received accreditation from the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) for its business and management programs offered through the School of Business.
"The review by the IACBE recognizes the commitment of WCU and the School of Business to high-quality educational programs and student learning," said Dr. Cheryl Dale, dean of the School of Business. "Our programs, curriculum, and faculty have been assessed to determine how effectively they meet professional standards and prepare students for their chosen careers. This accreditation affirms our dedication to student success."
The programs receiving accreditation are the Bachelor of Science in Business with a major in business administration and concentrations in accounting, computer information systems, finance, management/marketing, workforce training and development, and the Master of Business Administration degree.
The accreditation process included a rigorous self-evaluation, a comprehensive, independent peer review, and demonstrated compliance with the following IACBE accreditation principles: outcomes assessment, strategic planning, curriculum, faculty, scholarly and professional activities, resources, internal and external relationships, international business education, and educational innovation.
A release from IACBE stated the School of Business has demonstrated a commitment to continuous improvement, excellence in business education, and advancing academic quality in its business programs and operations.
"I am so pleased with another national accreditation of academic programs for William Carey," said Dr. Tommy King, WCU president. "This speaks to the quality of programs that we offer."
The School of Business offers both undergraduate and master's degrees. Classes are offered at the Hattiesburg campus and the Tradition campus in Biloxi. During the 2015-2016 school year, 58 students received a Bachelor of Science in Business degree, and 43 students received an MBA. The undergraduate business administration major has six concentration areas - accounting, computer information systems, finance, international business, management/marketing, and workforce training and management.
The Master of Business Administration is offered entirely at night, which makes it more convenient for working professionals to earn their MBA degree. The school also offers a dual Master of Science in Nursing and Master of Business Administration degree.
All students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business degree must complete 10 hours of community service. The "Service Learning for Business" course enables students to integrate community service with reflection in order to teach awareness of civic responsibility and strengthen communities.
"William Carey University is a wonderful asset for our region with far reaching educational and economic impacts," said Chad Newell, president of the Area Development Partnership. "The university is an excellent partner and an active participant with the ADP, Greater Hattiesburg's regional chamber of commerce and economic development organization. The ADP and WCU have a symbiotic relationship as we strive to enhance the quality of life and create better opportunities for our citizens."
