Medical Laboratory Science
The Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) prepares students to become highly skilled laboratory professionals who play a vital role in patient diagnosis and treatment as well as leaders and managers in the healthcare arena. Through comprehensive coursework in the biological and chemical sciences, students complete all required prerequisite courses and develop foundational knowledge across multiple laboratory disciplines.
Program Overview
Hours
The program requires the completion of 120 total credit hours. Of these, 93 credit hours are completed through coursework at William Carey University, followed by a 27-credit-hour residency at an affiliated healthcare institution.
Delivery Method
This program offers a hydbrid delivery method for didactic courses. Upon completion of the pre-requisite requirements, students will apply to the MLS residency. Students will engage in hands-on clinical training at an affiliated healthcare institution, gaining supervised, real-world experience across various laboratory departments.
Applicant Prerequisites & Requirements
Prospective Students must:
- Submission of a completed application to William Carey University
- Must be in good standing at William Carey University and have a cumulative grade point average ≥ 2.75
- Must have a minimum grade of C in all transfer courses
- Upon admission, evidence of a clear criminal background check
Career Outlooks
Graduates are eligible to sit for national certification examinations and are prepared for employment in hospitals, reference laboratories, public health agencies, research facilities, and other healthcare settings.
