The whole of the narrative text on the succeeding pages is based on the interweaving of direct quotations from the works of: a) Samuel Stennett in his 1825 edition of 'Memoirs of Mr. William Ward'; and b) John Clark Marshman in his 1859 edition of 'The Life and Times of Carey, Marshman and Ward'. Permission has been given for the use of the above material on this site by the Derby Local Studies Library, and all rights remain with them. Derby Local Studies Library copyright covers all the main text from Chapters 1 to 28. Text material in the notes and other sections of the site comes from various sources. Their origins are clearly indicated and the material has been used with the owner's permission. All rights rest with the owners. Stennett's original text for the period leading up to Ward's first journey to India can be read in full on the Digital Library Page of this site. John Clark Marshman's equivalent account of the period, together with his account of the history of missionary activity in India prior to William Carey's arrival, can also be read on the Digital Library Page.
