Our students have a wide variety and choice of ensembles. We believe that ensemble performance is important. It creates a sense of family, cooperation and it is just fun to make music with friends! Our ensembles focus on developing each student spiritually and academically.
The Carey Chorale
The Chorale is the primary choral ensemble at William Carey. This auditioned ensemble of 40 students represents the University in churches, schools, community events, and in mission areas. The Chorale performs a variety of literature appropriate for different venues and audiences. Open to all students by audition.
The Chapel Choir
Open to all students without audition, the Chapel Choir provides music for chapel and on campus concerts throughout the year.
Carey Company is the university’s song and dance ensemble. This high energy ensemble performs and entertains at a variety of university, school, and community events.
Carpenter’s Wood is open to all Carey students by audition. This small vocal group sings in churches and has travelled abroad several times. Begun as a “folk ensemble” in the 1960s, “Wood” maintains an active schedule.
Music Theatre and Opera Workshop
From one-act works to full-scale productions, this ensemble is open to all students. Workshop experiences afford students major performance roles on-stage.
Restoration Band is Carey’s newest ensemble. This contemporary Christian band is comprised of vocalist, a full rhythm section, and a horn section. Restoration leads worship in a variety of student ministry settings, including D-Now events, student camps, fifth quarter events, and other student ministry gatherings.
The Chorale and the Chapel Choir join forces several times a year to perform major choral works.
This ensemble is open to all students by audition and performs a variety of classical, sacred, and traditional band literature. This is William Carey’s premier instrumental ensemble for wind and percussion instrumentalists. The ensemble performs several concerts throughout the year including serving as the exhibition group for the William Carey honor band clinic in the spring. The band also broadens the performing experience with the occasional addition of string and rhythm sections, allowing the student to experience a studio orchestra setting for major productions.
Spirit of Carey
A high energy marching indoor brass and percussion group that serves as ambassadors for the university.
Jazz Band is a big band instrumental ensemble that performs the broad spectrum of jazz, blues, funk, and swing music.
A traveling woodwind ensemble playing a variety of classical, sacred, and contemporary woodwind literature.
A traveling saxophone ensemble playing a variety of classical, sacred, and contemporary saxophone literature.
Performs string ensemble repertoire and studies ensemble techniques and interpretation. This group combines with Symphonic Winds and rhythm section for seasonal productions and concerts.
Guitar Ensemble provides group performance opportunities for classical and jazz guitarist. This ensemble performs locally at small venues in the Hattiesburg area.
Piano Ensemble features multiple pianists who perform a wide variety of piano literature. Very popular for Christmas concerts, this ensemble is open to all students by audition.
This ensemble is open to all students by audition. The Pep Band performs at home basketball games.
The Carey Handbell Ensemble
The Carey Handbell Ensemble performs handbell settings of sacred, classical and secular music. Always featured in Christmas concerts, this ensemble is open to all students by audition.
