Called to Teach
The Master of Education program offers a comprehensive range of specialized concentrations outside of the School of Education, including art, English, mathematics, and social science. Designed to prepare individuals for successful careers in professional education, our program provides rigorous academic training and practical, hands-on experience to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the field. Whether you're looking to advance your career or embark on a new path in education, our Master of Education program offers the flexibility and support you need to achieve your goals.
The academic requirements for a Master of Education degree consist of 30 semester hours from three categories:(1) professional education, (2) specialized concentrations, and (3) electives. Additional hours beyond those listed below will be required for students who seek an advanced license in an area different from their education bachelor’s degree, as determined by the academic advisor.
The Master of Education program with concentration in Art Education seeks to provide students with both advanced study and improved credentials in a highly marketable chosen field of study. The program offers opportunities to build on undergraduate studies and work experiences and opens doors for candidates to become strong professional leaders in the discipline of Art Education.
Program Overview
Hours
This program is 30 hours and may be completed in as little as 12 months. Students may begin the program any term.
Delivery Method
Classes in the graduate core (EDU 620, 630 and 640) are available online. Art concentration graduate students in education meet traditionally (on campus) for art specific coursework in a manner designed to be flexible for working teachers. This program is ideal for full-time working professionals. William Carey uses Canvas as the learning management system for online coursework. Students will have the opportunity to build a portfolio of materials to use in day-to-day instruction.
Applicant Prerequisites & Requirements
- Complete an online application through Graduate Admissions
- Submit all official transcripts electronically to Graduate Admissions
- Have a GPA of 2.5 with a minimum of 3.0 on any previous work in Art / Art Education
- Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with at least a minor in Art / Art Education (this undergraduate credit may be waived by the chair of art, after an interview, for holders of certificates in other subject areas)
- Hold or qualify to hold a Class A teacher’s license and provide a copy (or sign a waiver for certification)
- Provide two recommendations from past or current supervisors
The Master of Education program with concentration in English seeks to provide students with both advanced study and improved credentials in a highly marketable chosen field of study. The program offers opportunities to build on undergraduate studies and work experiences and opens doors for candidates to become strong professional leaders in the discipline of English. Ordinarily, the Master of Education candidate who wishes to specialize in English has an undergraduate major or minor with at least a 2.5 overall GPA (with a minimum of 3.0 on any previous hours in English) and has combined interests in writing, literature, and pedagogy/classroom practice.

The mathematics department of William Carey University, in keeping with the goals and objectives statement of the Master of Education programs, offers a graduate mathematics curriculum designed to provide students with 1) academic credentials that will enable them to advance in their chosen fields of employment; 2) opportunities to specialize in the particular field of mathematics education; 3) opportunities to supplement their under-graduate studies and work experience; and 4) opportunities to become strong professional leaders within the mathematics discipline.

The program is 30 hours and can often be completed in 12-18 months. Graduate courses are offered on a rotation schedule with many courses, particularly seminars, offered in the summer term. This program begins each term.
Delivery Method
Classes are delivered in a fully online format that is perfect for the working student who wants to take their education to the next level. A cohort delivery of this program is available for schools or groups that wish to move through the program together. This delivery method encourages students to develop relationships that enhance and support current instruction and future challenges.

- Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with at least a minor in History (minimum of 21 course hours with 9 hours in upper-level course)
- Hold or qualify to hold a Class A teacher’s license and provide a copy (or sign a waiver for certification)
- Provide two recommendations from past or current supervisors
The Master of Education program with concentration in Social Science and history seeks to provide students with both advanced study and improved credentials in a highly marketable chosen field of study. The program offers opportunities to build on undergraduate studies and work experiences and opens doors for candidates to become strong professional leaders in the discipline of Social Science and world history.

The program requires 15 hours of graduate-level history or social science, 9 hours of core education Master of Education coursework, and 6 hours of graduate electives.

Classes are fully online and are designed to be flexible and require no synchronous meetings. This program is ideal for full-time working professionals. William Carey uses Canvas as the learning management system for online coursework. Students will have the opportunity to build a portfolio of materials to use in day-to-day instruction.
