RN-BSN Admission Information

Thank you for your interest in the Joseph and Nancy Fail School of Nursing at William Carey University. We hope the following information is helpful to you. Feel free to contact us with any questions or to see a nursing advisor.

Program information:

  • The nursing component is taught in an online hybrid format, with the requirement of three on- campus Saturday class meetings each term, and can be completed in 12 months.
  • To register for courses, submit a completed William Carey University application with the required fees and an official transcript from every college you have attended to the admissions office.
  • Prerequisite courses may be completed at William Carey or you may transfer courses from other accredited colleges and/or universities. Transfer of up to 60 hours of community college courses is acceptable.
  • Each student must complete at least 30 hours of William Carey University credit. The last 30 hours must be competed at William Carey.
  • The program consists of 66 hours of core courses and 30 hours of upper division nursing course work. The core courses can be taken prior to or with the nursing curriculum, with the exception of PSY 351 - Introductions to Psychological Statistics, which must be taken prior to NURN 460 Evidence-Based Practice for RN's
  • Based on your registered nurse licensure, you will be awarded 24 hours of credit applicable toward the degree.
  • The BSN degree at William Carey University will require successful completion of the pre-requisite courses as well as the nursing courses. The pre-requisite courses may be taken at any time within six years of admission to William Carey University.
  • Students are required to successfully complete the Computer Proficiency Exam during first term of the nursing major. An Introduction to Computers course will substitute for the Computer Proficiency Exam. If not successful on the CPE, BUS 102 or its equivalent must be successfully completed.
  • Previous Failures:
    • Students with two Ds or Fs in the nursing component of another RN-BSN program are ineligible to apply for three years. After three years, the applicant must submit a written appeal to the nursing Leadership Team for permission to apply.
    • Students with one D or F in the nursing component of another RN-BSN program will enter the program with one nursing failure. A letter of good standing from previous nursing program must be provided.
    • William Carey University Prelicensure BSN credit will not be applied as RN-BSN credit for students that have previously been unsuccessful in the William Carey University Prelicensure BSN Program. To be eligible for degree, all RNs admitted to the William Carey University-BSN program, must successfully completed all courses listed in the RN-BSN Plan of Study

Requirements for admission:

  • Graduation from a nationally accredited associate degree or diploma nursing program.
  • Unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse.
  • Cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on all courses taken toward meeting the nursing degree requirements.
  • Must have clearance of criminal background check prior to participating in nursing clinical courses.
  • Must provide evidence of a negative drug screen prior to participating in nursing clinical courses.
  • Immunizations as required by School of Nursing
