Office of Mississippi Physician Workforce

Created in 2012 by the state legislature, the Office of Mississippi Physician Workforce (OMPW) monitors and evaluates the composition and distribution of Mississippi’s physician workforce and provides assistance and recommendations to the state’s leadership on current and future workforce needs. Initiatives include policy development that improves graduate medical education and physician training, retention and distribution, physician workforce projections, and data and research.

The mission of OMPW is to develop strategies that attract, educate and sustain a well-trained and appropriately distributed physician workforce in Mississippi, so as to ensure health care access for ALL Mississippians.

The Appalachian Osteopathic Postgraduate Training Institute Consortium (A-OPTIC)

The Appalachian Osteopathic Postgraduate Training Institute Consortium (A-OPTIC) is an organization

that remains committed to meeting the healthcare workforce needs of its Members and the rural residents for whom they provide care.

 

The mission of A-OPTIC is to promote and enhance the quality and capacity of health professional education to meet the needs of frontier, rural, and other medically underserved areas of the United States, with an emphasis on graduate medical education to ensure an adequate supply of primary care physicians. The Academic Members of A-OPTIC include the University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine and William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

 

The Goals of A-OPTIC are:

  • Facilitate the establishment and provide maintenance of graduate medical education programs to meet the needs of A-OPTIC Members
  • Provide Faculty Development programming to supplement local Member resources
  • To provide Curriculum programming to supplement local Member resources
  • Provide Research resources to supplement local Member resources
  • Establish and maintain a learning environment that values meaningful scholarly activity
  • Enhance health, improve healthcare, and improve affordability for the public at large
