Theme Verse

Each year William Carey University chooses an annual theme that is designed to provide an idea for us to focus on and to unify the campus. The theme for 2025-26 comes from Matthew 23:11

"Called to Serve."

Just two months before his death in 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered a speech entitled “The Drum Major Instinct.” In the speech, Dr. King stated, “If you want to be great—wonderful. But recognize that he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. That's a new definition of greatness. By giving that definition of greatness, it means that everybody can be great because everybody can serve…. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love. And you can be that servant.”

Dr. King's words echo Jesus’ own words in Matthew 23:11. They remind us that greatness is not about accumulating accolades or possessions but that true greatness is found in loving and serving others. As a Christian university, we want to honor Jesus by continuing His mission to love and serve everyone we meet. This year we want to live out the truth that we are called to serve.
