The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Health Information Management (HIM) prepares individuals for self-directed practice in the evolving discipline of HIM, for continuing growth in the field of HIM, and for formal graduate study. The curriculum is a synthesis of content from information technology, advanced business technology, business and management, biomedical sciences, healthcare organization and delivery, and information and data management.

Program Overview

Hours

This program is 60 hours (excluding prerequisites) and may be completed in as few as 18 months (six trimesters).

Delivery Method

This program is 100% online, other than the the practicum course, HIM 410 - Professional Practice Experience, which is taken during the final term of the program. Virtual sessions are available for those students who need direct access to course instructors.

Applicant Prerequisites & Requirements

Prospective Students must:

Complete application for general admission to William Carey University and pay all necessary fees, along with submission of all supporting documents required by the University.
Have a minimum GPA of 2.6.
Submit a completed HIM program application.
Complete an unofficial transcript evaluation with the HIM program director to determine what prerequisite courses are needed.
Meet all prerequisite course requirements with a C or better in all courses (list of required prerequisite courses can be provided by program director).
Provide evidence of a clear criminal background check and negative drug screen.
Provide evidence of immunization compliance and history of physical examination prior to professional practice experience.
