WCU Welcomes New Students
William Carey University welcomed new students during Carey WOW (Welcome and Orientation Weekend) held August 21-24.
Some of the activities included a Crusader Ceremony, student luau, devotional times, nature walks and student and parent orientation sessions. Students were able to learn about the history of WCU, its culture and also its namesake through informative sessions led by university personnel. Other sessions included information on being financially smart as a student and exploring Hattiesburg and the local area.
Students were divided into teams with competitions such as scavenger hunts held between the teams all weekend. Students were also able to attend WCU men's and women's soccer games, enjoy a cookout on the soccer fields and attend various local churches with their new classmates.
"It was very fun and informed me about the university, while also helping me get familiar with my surroundings and meeting new people," said Austin Speights, 18, a freshman at WCU.
