Homecoming 2014 Planned at WCU

Hattiesburg, Miss., April 21, 2014 - A wide variety of events are planned at William Carey University to celebrate Homecoming 2014 April 25-26 on the Hattiesburg campus.

Events on Friday include a 50-Year Alumni Reunion Luncheon at noon in the Student Conference Center followed by campus tours and Open House from 2- 4 p.m.  The annual Alumni Awards Banquet Dinner is at 5:30 p.m. at Southern Oaks House and Gardens, and will include the presentation of the Homecoming Court, the Hall of Fame awards ceremony, and special recognition for decades 1974, 1984, 1994,  and 2004. Following the dinner, the Winters School of Music will present Camelot in Smith Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday events begin with the Student Foundation 5K Race at the Kennedy Sports Complex beginning at 8 a.m. Visit for more details and to pre-register, or register the day of the race at 7 a.m. Following the 5K, WCU will be the Carey Couples Vow Renewal Ceremony at 9:30 a.m. in Bass Memorial Chapel. A reunion will be held for the School of Music alumni at 10 a.m. in Thomas Fine Arts Center while Sigma Beta Delta Business Honor Society will hold their induction ceremony at 10 a.m. in the Kresge Room.

A Children’s Character Brunch will be held in the Student Conference Center at 10 a.m. with the annual Carey Carnival, Crawfish Boil and Cookout to follow from 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. on the Ross Hall/Johnson Hall lawn. The carnival will feature jumping games, fair games, crawfish, music, and fun for the whole family. There will also be a faculty book signing, a free Health Fair hosted by the WCU College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM), and Open House for the campus museum, art gallery, special collections, and chapel.

The School of Music will present a matinee of Camelot at 2 p.m., and a poetry read will also be held from 2-3:30 p.m. in Common Grounds Coffee House. The Lady Crusaders soccer team will play alumni on the soccer fields at 2 p.m. and the men’s team will follow at 4 p.m. Former staff members of the Cobbler newspaper and the year will gather in the Glass Room of Thomas Business Building for a 4 p.m. reunion. The evening will conclude with the Sports Hall of Fame Awards Dinner at 6 p.m. at Southern Oaks House and Gardens.
