Carey Hosts South Mississippi Counselors' Meeting
The William Carey University Office of Admissions hosted the South Mississippi Counselors' Workshop and Luncheon at the Hattiesburg campus on February 19.
The inaugural event was held for local grade school counselors. Over 50 counselors from 30 schools attended the event, which included a tour of the Carey campus and the College of Osteopathic Medicine, a complimentary luncheon and an educational session led by Gail Simmons, director of career, counseling and support services for the Mississippi Department of Education.
The workshop provided training for the Mississippi Counselor Appraisal Rubric, or M-CAR, and information on educator evaluations.
Prior to Simmons' workshop, Dr. Ben Burnett, dean of the Carey School of Education, welcomed the group to campus and discussed his appreciation for the work of school counselors and the impact they make on students' lives daily.
