Carey Dinner Theatre to Present Musical Journey Down “Route 66”
Hattiesburg, Miss., July 8, 2013 - Carey Dinner Theatre (CDT) will present the jukebox musical “Route 66” July 9-20. Performances are in the Joe and Virginia Tatum Theatre on the Hattiesburg campus of William Carey University.
“Route 66” is a musical journey along the famous highway, featuring the music of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Written and created by Roger Bean with musical arrangements by Brian Baker, “Route 66” follows Texaco gas station attendants, truckers, cowboys, and lawmen as they travel the “Main Street of America” from Chicago, Ill. to the Santa Monica Speedway in California. Among the many popular songs are “King of the Road,” “Little Old Lady from Pasadena,” “On the Road Again,” “Route 66,” and “Six Days on the Road.”
The gas station attendants and truckers are played by Michael Ginn of Collins; Brandon Hayes of Saraland, Ala.; Cody Laun of Longmont, Col.; Kevar Maffitt of Olive Branch; and Ben Salters of Vancleave. The men are supported by Mollie Betsch of Slidell, La.; Brandy Cramer of Gulfport; and Kelly Rowland of Jennings, La. Tae Young Hong of Guatemala City, Guatemala is pianist, and Zach Lancaster of Picayune plays percussion and strings.
Tim Matheny, chair of the WCU theatre and communication department, is director. Musical director is Tim Dail of the WCU Winters School of Music faculty. Cody Stockstill, who will join the faculty of Mississippi State University in the fall, is designer and technical director. Chris Wooten, president of Just Over the Rainbow Theatre, is costume designer. Managing director is WCU professor emeritus O. L. Quave.

The box office is open daily except Sundays from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. To make reservations call 601-318-6221. Dinner is served at 7 p.m. and the performance follows. There are no performances on Sundays or Mondays. The ticket price of $29 includes buffet, show, sales tax and program book.
