Carey Dedicates Futral Hall
A dedication ceremony was held on September 3 for Futral Hall, the newest residence hall on the William Carey University Hattiesburg campus.
The building is named for Dr. Jim Futral, executive director-treasurer of the Mississippi Baptist Convention, and houses 96 male students in rooms with private baths. The hall is connected to Davis Hall, which was completed in 2013, and completes a quadrangle of new residence halls constructed on the south end of the campus since 2007.
Dr. Tommy King, Carey president, said the selection of the Futral name for the building honors Futral's "concern, support and passion for Christian higher education in Mississippi."
"Jim Futral has been a great friend to Carey for many years," he said.
During the ceremony, King welcomed guests and discussed Futral's achievements, career and service. Branden Lindsay, a sophomore theatre major and Futral Hall resident assistant from Simpsonville, South Carolina, offered a student testimony. Valerie Bridgeforth, vice president for student support, gave a scripture reading while Dr. Scott Hummel, provost, concluded the ceremony with a prayer of dedication.
Following the ceremony, there was a ribbon cutting for the building, which opened for student occupancy in early August.
