The Winters School of Music at William Carey University will present “Side by Side by Sondheim” Oct. 21-22. Curtain time is 7 p.m. in the President’s Ballroom at Tatum Court.
“We chose this musical revue because it features songs by composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim. It’s upbeat and comical, full of songs from ‘West Side Story,’ ‘A Little Night Music,’ ‘Company’ and more – musicals that people love,” said Katie Ginn, who directed the production.
“We hope it will provide audiences a much-needed comical and musical escape.”
Ginn is an assistant professor of dance at William Carey University. She and WCU music professor Dr. Connie Roberts have worked together on Carey Opera and Music Theatre productions for a decade. Roberts is the show’s music director and will also sing a tune during the show. They are joined this year by two more WCU music instructors, Katrina Cox and Tae Young.
The cast includes William Carey University students and a guest performer from the University of Southern Mississippi:
- Christy Jimenez of Hollywood, Calif., is a vocal performance major at WCU and comes from a family of musicians.
- Kyra De Oliveira of Biloxi is double majoring in vocal performance and music education at WCU and is completing student teaching while working on the show.
- Megan Fordham of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., is a vocal performance major at WCU.
- Ryan Thomas of New Orleans is working on a master’s degree in music and worship studies at WCU.
- Edison Brown of Clinton is a choral music education major at USM.
Three William Carey students are working backstage: Sarah Clinton, stage manager; Jacob May, set construction; and Andrew Shelton, lighting technician.
