Terrell receives Hub Award Leadership Scholarship
William Carey University sophomore Lachan Michelle Terrell was recognized as the 2017 recipient of the Hub Award Leadership Scholarship at the 39th annual Hub Award dinner on Nov. 14 at the Lake Terrace Convention Center.
Terrell, a Hattiesburg High graduate, is a math major who has spent the last several years giving her all both on and off the field. In addition to being a Presidential Scholar at Carey, Terrell has been a soccer referee and a member of the basketball and track teams. She was selected as All-Conference in track and field. Terrell is also involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes and assists with all projects and services.
Track and Field Coach Blake Hegstrom said, “Lachan is an exemplary athlete of strong character, great coach-ability, amazing work ethic, and outstanding team responsibility.”
The athletic field is not the only field Terrell throws her heart into. As a member of Grace Temple Church, Terrell has been involved in the mission field and has participated in various mission activities and trips. Within her own community, she reaches out and helps when she can, and is also a member of her church’s choir.
The Hub Award Leadership ScholarshipAn important part of the annual Hub Award event is contributing to the Hub Award Endowment at the Greater Pinebelt Community Foundation to benefit students attending William Carey University and the University of Southern Mississippi. Each year a scholarship is awarded to a WCU and USM student who has demonstrated leadership and community service. Since its founding in 1979, the Hub Award has generated scholarship funds totaling over a half million dollars.
