Carey Newspaper Advisor, Sports Editor Attend Nashville Workshop
Representatives from the William Carey University student newspaper, The Cobbler, attended the College Media Institute's Sports Reporting Training Camp from Feb. 11-14 at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.
Joshua Wilson, director of media relations and marketing at Carey and advisor for The Cobbler, and Christopher Moran of Metairie, Louisiana, the newspaper's sports editor, attended the workshop. Sessions addressed topics such as game coverage, feature writing, multimedia sports production, sports commentary, player and coach interviews, play-by-play announcing, blogging, sideline reporting and sports broadcasting.
Speakers included, among others, Buster Olney, Karl Ravech, Jordan Conn and Michael Wallace from ESPN; Dave Sheinin from The Washington Post; Lee Jenkins from Sports Illustrated; Rachel Whittaker from NOLA.com; Joe Gisondi, an author and journalism professor at Eastern Illinois University; and Mike Keith, the play-by-play announcer for the Tennessee Titans.
Advisors and students from across the country attended the workshop, which is one of several training events hosted annually by CMI. CMI is a division of Vanderbilt Student Communications Inc., which oversees student media programs at Vanderbilt University.
