Carey Gillespie Museum to Host ˜All Creatures Great and Small' Exhibit
The William Carey University Sarah Ellen Gillespie Museum of Art will host the "All Creatures Great and Small" exhibit, a selection of paintings from various Mississippi artists featuring animals, from November 16 through January 18.
The opening reception for the exhibit will be held from 4:30 until 6 p.m. on November 17 at the museum, which is located adjacent to the Smith/Rouse Library on the Hattiesburg campus. The reception will feature animals from the Hattiesburg Zoo, including a Flemish giant rabbit, the world's second-largest species of rabbit, and a chinchilla, known as the world's softest animal.
Selected artists featured in the exhibit include Alan R. Flattmann, Walter Inglis Anderson, James McConnell Anderson, Christopher Stebly and Gary McGregor. The works were selected from the university's Gillespie Collection, which contains over 600 pieces of art and is considered to be the most comprehensive collection of art executed by Mississippians in the 20th century.
The museum will be closed for Thanksgiving break from November 23-29 and for Christmas break from December 18 through January 10. Regular operating hours are 1 until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Special appointments may be made by calling (601) 318-6561.
