Linyi University Officials Visit Carey as Part of Partnership
Officials from Linyi University in Linyi, China, visited and toured the William Carey University Hattiesburg campus on May 19 as part of an ongoing relationship between the two universities.
During the visit, the Linyi delegation toured multiple campus attractions, including the Center for the Study of the Life and Work of William Carey and the College of Osteopathic Medicine, and met with university officials to affirm and discuss the universities' continuing partnership.
Carey established a relationship with the Chinese university, which is located in east China and has an enrollment of over 34,000 students, in 2007. In 2010, a faculty and student exchange program was formed and a delegation of Carey officials and Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree visited Linyi as part of a cultural, economic and educational exchange.
Since the establishment of the exchange program, Carey has sent students to study Chinese culture and language and also received Linyi students. Carey faculty members also travel to Linyi to teach spoken English while Linyi faculty members teach Chinese culture and language, martial arts and calligraphy at Carey. The partnership between the two universities also includes an exchange agreement between the Carey and Linyi libraries.
