Asbury Foundation Award Presented
Student Doctor Terry Fokakis, a second-year medical student at the William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine, was presented with the Asbury Award for Academic Excellence on August 16.
The annual award is given to a second-year medical student with the highest grade point average who lives in the eight-county area served by the Asbury Foundation of Hattiesburg. Preference is given to a student who intends to practice in Mississippi. The award includes a medallion and a cash stipend and is presented at the White Coat Ceremony welcoming new medical students to WCU and into the osteopathic medical profession.
Fokakis, of Hattiesburg, has a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Mississippi College and a Master of Science degree in biomedical sciences from Northwestern University. He is the son of Dr. Arthur and Mary Virginia Fokakis and husband to Kendra Fokakis. After graduation from the WCUCOM in 2017, Fokakis plans to practice medicine in Mississippi.
The award was presented to Fokakis by William K. "Bill" Ray, president and chief executive officer of the Asbury Foundation, and by Dr. Tommy King, president of WCU.
