WCU Announces SMAA Art Exhibit Winners
Hattiesburg, Miss., November 30, 2012 - William Carey University hosted a reception to celebrate the opening of "A Juried Exhibition of Watercolors and Sculptures" by the South Mississippi Art Association (SMAA) on November 29 in the Lucile Parker Gallery in the Thomas Fine Arts Center. During the reception, the winners of the exhibit were announced. Best of the Show cash award was presented to "Swan Song of Jasmine" by Dana Stratton of Hattiesburg. First Place in Watercolor was "Waiting on Another Load" by Wade Stephenson of Mendenhall. First Place in Sculpture for "Fantasy Ride" won by Brooke Lane, a tenth grade student at Forrest County Agricultural High School.
There are 31 watercolors and 10 sculptures on display. The exhibit runs through December 14.
The SMAA is an organization composed of Hattiesburg area artists who are interested in gathering together to further develop their talents and fuel their passion for art. The members share their artwork with the community through a variety of venues in order to increase awareness of the benefits of art. Currently, SMAA has over 150 members.
