Ensembles
Our students have a wide variety and choice of ensembles. We believe that ensemble performance is important. It creates a sense of family, cooperation and it is just fun to make music with friends! Our ensembles focus on developing each student musically, spiritually, and academically.
Student Organizations
The Carey Chorale is the premiere auditioned choral ensemble at the University. This ensemble presents frequent concerts and performs extensively in schools and some churches. Members of this ensemble also participate in the Worship Choir.

The Carey Worship Choir is open to all Carey students and no audition is required. This ensemble performs in churches and provides music for chapel services both on and off campus.

Carpenter’s Wood is a small gospel vocal ensemble, dedicated to sharing the hope of Jesus through powerful music and heartfelt ministry. We travel to churches across the state and are passionate about missions, using our voices to spread the gospel both locally and around the world..
Restoration Band is an auditioned contemporary Christian band that performs in churches and student ministry events.
Hub City Worship is an auditioned contemporary Christian band that performs in churches and student ministry events.
The Carey Commissioners is a men's quartet that sings a variety of literature for the local church and banquet settings.
The Carey Opera and Musical Theatre performs a variety of productions each year. From “White Christmas” to “The Magic Flute,” these talented students have opportunities to perform large scale shows with full orchestra both at Carey and at regional theaters.
Symphonic Winds is the top auditioned wind ensemble at the university. This ensemble performs symphonic literature for concerts and school events throughout the year. Instrumentalists who do not make this ensemble are invited to participate in CONCERT BAND.
The Carey Big Band is our top jazz ensemble who plays a variety of jazz literature from jazz standards to contemporary arrangements.
Knights of Jazz is a small jazz combo that performs for campus activities, civil functions, and community events.
The Carey Guitar Ensemble features guitar majors who play a wide variety of musical styles. These talented performers have the opportunity to arrange literature and perform transcriptions from all of the musical genres.
The Spirit of Carey is a high-impact indoor marching winds, percussion, and auxiliary ensemble. This auditioned ensemble performs in gyms, parades, and other locations.
Evidence Winds is our competitive Winter Guard International winds group that competes in regional and national contests and is made up of auditioned members from the Spirit of Carey.

The Carey Piano Ensemble features multiple pianists who perform a wide variety of piano literature. Very popular for Christmas concerts, this ensemble is available for church and school educational programs.
Thomas Hall is an auditioned rock guitar group that performs for campus, community, and regional events.
Chamber Ensembles are formed from multiple studios in the music department and perform on campus and in school settings.
The William Carey University Orchestra offers a diverse array of orchestral repertoire, encompassing works for string ensemble, opera, film scores, and full symphonic compositions. This auditioned ensemble collaborates with distinguished guest artists from around the world and the esteemed faculty of the Winters School of Music. Performances take place in the Thomas Fine Arts Building Auditorium and various regional venues. The orchestra comprises undergraduate music students, faculty, staff, alumni, and professional musicians from the community.
The Carey String Quartet delivers captivating performances that span the rich traditions of classical music and the innovative sounds of contemporary compositions. This ensemble brings together the talents of William Carey University's string students, offering audiences a dynamic and engaging musical experience. In addition to their local engagements, the quartet has had the privilege of performing internationally, showcasing their artistry on global stages. Their performances extend beyond the university, enriching cultural life in the Hattiesburg community and surrounding regions through various regional engagements.

The Carey Concert Choir is an auditioned choir that sings SATB literature and performs in chapels and other choral events. Members of this ensemble also participate in Worship Choir.
A professional and honorary music fraternity for women, Delta Omicron is open to music majors and minors who achieve its required academic performance and professional standards. Delta Omicron provides opportunities to increase leadership, service, and performance skills.
A collegiate chapter of NAfME that provides music education majors with opportunities to increase their knowledge concerning teaching and advocacy in the field of music education. Students will be presented with opportunities to engage at the local, state, and national levels.
An organization for music therapy majors, SMTO provides opportunities for increasing knowledge concerning the field of music therapy. It promotes opportunities and experiences for students in providing activities for persons with disabilities. Students are involved in opportunities at the local, regional, and national levels.
Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia is a music fraternity that promotes mutual welfare and brotherhood of musical students and the advancement of music in America..
