William Carey University's Master of Occupational Therapy program will accept a limited number of students for the fall semester of each academic year.  



APPLICATION

William Carey University's Occupational Therapy Program is now accepting applications through OT Centralized Application Services(OTCAS). Applicants should submit all admission documents through OTCAS at https://otcas.liaisoncas.com/. Do not send any supporting documents directly to WCU. Access the OTCAS website to begin your application procedure. 

Use the following checklist to assist you in this process:

  • Create an application account at https://otcas.liaisoncas.com
  • Please follow all instructions through OTCAS portal
  • FOR TRADITIONAL PROGRAM ONLY: Complete 40 hours of observation under a licensed occupational therapist or licensed OTA in two different settings. A minimum of 50% of hours must be observed under a licensed occupational therapist. Must be verified and submitted electronically to OTCAS.

The OTCAS organization will verify your application for accuracy, calculate your GPA, and send your materials to the Department of Occupational Therapy at William Carey University for admissions evaluation.

Traditional MOT Admission Criteria

Prospective Students must:

  • Hold an earned Baccalaureate Degree from a regionally accredited college or university.  A degree must be conferred prior to entering the MOT program.
  • Complete all sections of the OTCAS application by the deadline date at https://otcas.liaisoncas.com/ using Institutional Code 7400. No documents should be sent directly to William Carey University.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 for OT prerequisite courses.  
    • A grade of "B" or above in each prerequisite course is recommended; however, no grade lower than a "C" will be accepted in these courses. 
    • It is recommended that prerequisites be completed within seven years of the the relevant application cycle.
  • Complete 40 hours of observation under a licensed occupational therapist or licensed OTA in two different settings.  A minimum of 50% of hours must be observed under a licensed occupational therapist.  Must be verified and submitted electronically to OTCAS.
  • Provide three letters of recommendation.  It is required that one of the recommendation letters be from a licensed occupational therapy practitioner.
    • It is most important that the people providing recommendations know you well so that they can provide specific examples of your strengths and accomplishments.  Letters of recommendation must be submitted through OTCAS.
  • After the initial processing of applications, selected applicants will complete an admission interview.

OTA to MOT Admission Criteria

Prospective Students must:

  • Have graduated from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program with an associate's degree
  • Hold an unencumbered OTA license throughout the duration of the program.
  • Complete all sections of the OTCAS application by the deadline date at https://otcas.liaisoncas.com/ using Institutional Code 7400. No documents should be sent directly to William Carey University.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 for OT prerequisite courses.  
    • A grade of "B" or above in each prerequisite course is recommended; however, no grade lower than a "C" will be accepted in these courses. 
  • One year of full-time work experience as a licensed occupational therapy assistant.

 Our Financial Aid Office is committed to guiding students through the financial aid process effectively. Mississippi students have various financing options available, including military benefits, work-study programs, and need-based loans. 

Students should not apply for Financial Aid until a formal letter of acceptance has been received. Financial Aid questions and applications should be directed to the WCU Office of Financial Aid at finaid@wmcarey.edu or 601-318-6153.

In order to qualify for the Master of Occupational Therapy Degree, the following conditions must be met:

  • The student must complete all Institutional requirements for graduation, including meeting all financial obligations and completing all required courses.
  • The student must successfully complete all Occupational Therapy required courses in the curriculum with a grade of “C” or better and a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher.
  • The student must earn a passing rate on their fieldwork assessments (Fieldwork Performance Evaluation: FWPE) at the completion of their fieldwork experiences.

The program is aware that circumstances may arise that would require an extension of the time needed to complete the program course requirements. However, students must complete all Level II fieldwork within 12 months following completion of the didactic portion of the program.

William Carey University holds a commencement ceremony in May and December. Only students who have met all requirements for graduation will be eligible to participate. Any

student who has delayed fieldwork experience for any reason will not be able to participate in the ceremony.

ACCEPTANCE OF TRANSFER CREDITS

Students who have completed graduate credit at another regionally accredited institution may receive up to 25% transfer credit toward program requirements at the discretion of the program coordinator.

  • Transfer credit will be accepted only for courses that contribute to the plan of study outlined in the graduate catalog.
  • Graduate courses carrying a grade of less than a ‘B’ will not be accepted.
  • All transfer credit is subject to the six-year degree completion time limit (see Academic Regulations).
  • Independent study credit earned at another institution will not be accepted.

Transfer credit eligibility is determined on a case-by-case basis and requires approval of the dean. Candidates should discuss transfer credit eligibility and procedure with their advisor.


CREDIT FOR WORK RELATED EXPERIENCE

The OTA to MOT bridge students will be awarded 6 credit hours based on holding an active, unencumbered OTA license and clinical experience. All students are required to have 80 credit hours for conferral of the MOT degree.
