Aspiring teachers are invited to the William Carey University School of Education’s upcoming Teacher Education Roundup:
This event is open to high school and college students who want to become teachers, as well as assistant teachers who want to become certified to teach. People with college degrees in other fields who are interested in becoming teachers through William Carey’s alternate route program are also invited to attend.
Thursday, May 16, 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Gulfport Public Library
1708 25th Ave., Gulfport
“Attracting new teachers to the field of education is vitally important – now more than ever because of the teacher shortage,” said Dr. Ben Burnett, dean of the WCU School of Education.
“Local school districts will be sending people to discuss employment opportunities in their area for those interested in WCU’s alternate route program.”
Through the alternate route program, WCU partners with schools districts to provide scholarships and classes to help people who already have bachelor’s degrees earn their teaching certificates.
Help is also available for assistant teachers who want to earn certification. WCU will provide a 50 percent tuition reduction for online classes, enabling aspiring teachers to work on their studies when their schedules permit.
For more information, contact Julie Lee at (601) 318-6600 or jlee@wmcarey.edu.
