Peter Nionakis

Bio

Born in Washington, D.C., Peter Nionakis holds a B.M. in Jazz Studies and a M.M. in Trumpet Performance, both from Loyola University New Orleans. During his time at Loyola, Peter studied under Dr. Nicholas Volz and Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra’s principal trumpet Vance Woolf. He participated in Loyola’s concerto competition and was a finalist and double finalist for two consecutive years. Previously performing as principal trumpet in Loyola’s wind ensemble, full orchestra, and big band, Peter was given the “Outstanding Band Student” award at the end of his senior year. Peter was also a member of the Loyola Trumpet Ensemble and performed at both the International Trumpet Guild and the National Trumpet Competition.

New Orleans provided many unique opportunities where Peter was able to perform in a wide variety of settings, including lead trumpet with the Jose Fermin Ceballos Orchestra, substitute trumpet with the LPO, and playing for weddings and masses at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Peter was also an instructor with the Greater New Orleans Youth Orchestra where he performed alongside middle and high school students.

Peter is thrilled to be here at Carey along with his wife Christa, who is a student at the College of Osteopathic Medicine.
