Jimi Brown

Bio

At William Carey University, Jimi Brown serves as Assistant Professor of Music - Percussion and Music Education where he teaches applied lessons, percussion ensemble, percussion methods (for both music education and music therapy concentrations), intermediate world drumming,  Spirit of Carey, Carey Worship band, and Evidence Winds. He also serves as a guest conductor for the Wind Symphony and POPS Band.

Mr. Brown earned a BME in 2008 from The University of Southern Mississippi and an MME from William Carey University in 2020. Before joining the faculty at Carey, he taught in the Mississippi public education system for 3 years in the Stone County Schools and 9 years in the Gulfport School District as a band director/percussion instructor. During this time, Mr. Brown was named Middle School Band Director of the Year by the Gulf Coast Band Directors Association (GCBDA) where he also served as Percussion Coordinator and during his final year in the association he served in the 1st Vice President role. He earned membership into the American School Band Directors Association (ASBDA) in 2020 and is an active member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and Percussive Arts Society (PAS).

Additionally, Mr. Brown serves as orchestra director at Hardy Street Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, MS where he is a member alongside his wife Garrett, of 16 years and their boys, Josiah and Jonah.
