Dr. Wesley Dykes

Dr. Dykes joined William Carey in 2012 as the Instrumental Coordinator. By 2018, he was Dean of the Winters School of Music. Under his leadership the School of Music grew to one of the largest in the nation. In the same six years, Winters School launched three new online graduate degrees and two bachelor’s degrees, including worship technology. Additionally, 18 new ensembles were created under his leadership including the Spirit of Carey, Symphonic Winds, and the Carey Worship Choir.

With over 30 years of experience teaching and serving in schools and churches, Dr. Dykes has a proven track record of fostering growth in every institution he's been a part of. As Vice President of Student Engagement, his goal is to bring as many students as possible to Carey to develop their craft, deepen their faith, and ultimately, go change their world. He also aims to cultivate a campus environment where students feel at home and genuinely cared for.

In addition to his role at Carey, He serves as the worship pastor of Hardy Street Baptist Church in Hattiesburg. His wife, Michelle, is actively involved in all areas of music education and ministry. She teaches clarinet, voice, and other music classes at William Carey University.
