Current Priority Projects
It is an exciting time at William Carey University as a number of special projects are underway. The campus is alive and growing, and you can make a difference by contributing to one or more of these great projects.
Please note that this is not a comprehensive list of all areas that you may contribute, but simply a highlight of several large projects currently underway.
William Carey University has grown impressively over the past five years with record enrollments, new program, and new facilities. However, a vital piece is missing from our campus—a chapel. Carey is currently the only institution of higher learning in Mississippi, whether public or private, two year or four year, without a chapel building on campus. We will rectify this omission with the construction of a small chapel on campus. Positioned adjacent to Chain Garden, the chapel’s presence will testify to the Christian mission of William Carey University and will provide an intimate place for prayer, devotion, and worship, as well as for recitals and small weddings. The sanctuary will hold approximately 100, so weekly chapel service will continue to be held in Smith Auditorium.
New School of Business Building
In effort to grow the School of Business at William Carey University, a new building campaign is underway. The new building will not only significantly increase the size of educational space, but it will also provide additional tools and resources for faculty and students alike to sharpen business skills and produce a more effective and prepared workforce for the Gulf South.
Business Leadership Institute
The William Carey University Leadership Institute seeks to develop leadership skills of elite William Carey University business students through professional and community activities. Selection for the Institute will be based on academic standing, involvement in university activities, community service, character, and demonstration of professional behavior. A maximum of 10 students will be selected for the program early in the Fall trimester. Leadership Institute activities and responsibilities will commence shortly after.
School of Nursing Building Expansion
A new expansion to the Joseph and Nancy Fail School of Nursing was recently completed in order to increase classroom and faculty space to accommodate the tremendous growth that the School has recently experienced. With an increased need for nurses in the health care sector, it is essential that adequate facility space was created in order to foster a proper educational and working environment. Naming opportunities for these expansion are still available.
College of Medicine Anatomy Laboratory
A new expansion to the College of Osteopathic Medicine is underway in effort to provide critical laboratory space for anatomy and medical research. The new expansion will include 7,379 square feet of anatomy research space and will free the current anatomy laboratory for use as an additional student and faculty research space. The new expansion will allow the College of Osteopathic Medicine’s faculty and students to conduct vital research for the benefit of citizens in the city, state, region and nation.
One of the largest and most formal events hosted at William Carey University is the annual Scholarship Dinner. This function is designed to raise funds to support student scholarships at the university. The dinner allows donors to contribute toward a fund of their choice or to give unrestricted funds, and in return are able to attend this exclusive event, network, and listen to a first-class speaker. Previous year’s speakers include Senator Trent Lott, Governor Phil Bryant, and Senator Roger Wicker. In the three years that the Scholarship Dinner has been held, more than $1,000,000 has been raised to support scholarships at the university.
New Gym and Athletic Center
Crusader Athletics have made tremendous strides in recent years. In order to accommodate the expanded number of sports and student-athletes at the university, a new gym and athletic center will be constructed on the west side of campus. This new center will house an expanded basketball court, coaches offices, varsity training rooms, locker rooms, a hall of fame, and other vital space for the success of our student athletes.
More significant giving opportunities will be made available soon.
