Dr. Connie Roberts, Professor of Music, is in her twenty-seventh year at William Carey University, where she holds the Winters Endowed Chair in Music. She holds B.M and M.M degrees from LSU and a DMA in Voice Performance and Voice Pedagogy from Southern Miss.
Dr. Roberts has conducted Carey Chorale, directed music for Carey Dinner Theatre, and produced, directed, and/or conducted nearly twenty operas and musicals in the School of Music. She is an active soprano soloist, performing in recitals, oratorios, musicals, and operas. Her conducting experience includes thirty-two years as music director Watestminster Presbyterian Church, Interim Director of Choral Activities at Louisiana State University, Director of Choral Activities at Belhaven College, and conductor of The Meistersingers, Hattiesburg’s Civic Chorus. Her professional honors include local, district, regional and national offices in the National Association of Teachers of Singing and Mississippi Music Teachers Association. Her students have won singing competitions at state and regional levels, held prestigious teaching positions, participated in international workshops, and earned advanced degrees across the country.
Dr. Roberts serves on the executive boards of The Hattiesburg Concert Association and The Meistersingers Civic Chorus, and is currently chair of the Carey Dinner Theatre Advisory Board. She resides in Hattiesburg with her husband, attorney Robin Roberts. She enjoys teaching students about singing, participating in church activities, going to concerts, and traveling and gardening when time permits.
