Meet the Vice President

Dr. Janet Williams

A spirited leader whose passion for patients has translated into a passion for students, Dr. Janet Williams believes in doing everything within her power to create advanced, state-of-the-art programs for the next generation of healthcare professionals. “At William Carey, we give students the resources and mentorship they need to answer the call to care, whether they want to work in direct patient care, like nursing, or in healthcare administration and education,” Dr. Williams said. “When I see a need for our students, I rally to meet that need. That’s the kind of support the next generation deserves.” Janet Williams has been employed at William Carey since 1990. She has served as faculty, director, Associate Dean of Nursing, Dean of Nursing, and now serves as Vice President of the College of Health Sciences. Dr. Williams has contributed to the addition of many health-related programs which now constitute the College of Health Sciences:  Nursing, Physical Therapy, Health Information Management, Health Education and Administration, and Pharmacy. Dr. Williams, a Mississippi native, has served as a member of the Mississippi Board of Nursing and has been honored as an “Outstanding Young Woman of America”, “Who’s Who in Nursing”, “Who’s Who in Women Executives”, and a recipient of the 2011 Women of Achievement Award. Dr. Williams was named Nursing School Administrator of the Year for the State of Mississippi by the Mississippi Nursing Association and Mississippi Nurses Foundation for 2014 – 2015, during which time the school of nursing at WCU was recognized as being the School of Nursing for the Year for the State of Mississippi. Dr. Williams was also honored for her contributions to healthcare by the Mississippi Business Journal as a 2019 Healthcare Hero.
