Academic Affairs Office

Welcome to the Academic Affairs Office. Our office is responsible for overseeing the instructional program at William Carey University, including the academic programs, faculty, and curriculum. The deans of the seven academic schools, the Director of Libraries and Learning Resources, the Registrar, the Desktop Publishing Office, and the QEP Director report directly to the VPAA. The academic dean of the Tradition Campus, the Director of Student and Administrative Services at the New Orleans Campus, and the Dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine also coordinate closely with the Academic Affairs Office.

The Vice President for Academic Affairs leads the Academic Council, the Deans meeting, and undergraduate and graduate faculty assemblies. The VPAA is designated as the Liaison Officer for SACS-COC and is responsible for directing investigations of complaints related to discrimination. Several university committee report to the VPAA, including: Academic Appeals Committee, Academic Honor Boards, Graduate Committee, Institutional Review Board, Library Committee, Professional Development Committee, QEP Monitoring Committee, Teacher Education Committee, Undergraduate Curriculum Committee, and the Writing Standards Committee.

Office Personnel:

Garry Breland, Ed.D., Vice President for Academic Affairs.  Dr. Breland joined the administration of WCU in November 2007. Prior to coming to WCU, his alma mater, he served at Hannibal-LaGrange College in Hannibal, Missouri, for 15  years as a faculty member and campus counselor, and for 9 years as VPAA.

Betty Boney, B.S., Academic Affairs. Ms. Boney began service in the Academic Affairs office in May 2015, after working for two years in the School of Nursing. Her previous experience has included higher education, marketing/sales, and health care setting.
