WDAM News Director and Main Anchor Speaks at WCU Christian Leadership Lecture

Randy Swan, news director and main anchor at WDAM, was the guest speaker for William Carey University’s Christian Leadership Lecture on Wednesday, December 7, in Smith Auditorium. A question and answer session was held following the lecture in the Lucile Parker Gallery for students interested in journalism or mass communication careers.

Swan has been at WDAM since 1976, not counting the five years he spent as station manager, news director, and anchor in Greenville. His career was inspired by his father, a local radio and television host and musician. At the young age of 15, he began working as a full-time radio broadcaster, and continued to do so throughout college. Some career highlights include covering rebel forces during the overthrow of the Nicaraguan government, and leading the news team during multiple hurricanes and natural disasters, including Hurricane Katrina.

A graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, Swan was inducted into the USM School of Mass Communication and Journalism Hall of Fame in 2010. In 2006, he was elected to the Mississippi Associated Press Hall of Fame.

He and his wife Millie have four children, and are members of First Baptist Church of Hattiesburg.
