WCU School of Nursing Holds Induction Ceremony

Hattiesburg, Miss., June 18, 2012 - Sixty-one nursing students from the three William Carey University campuses were formally inducted into the Upsilon Theta Chapter 462 of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing on June 16 in Wilkes Dining Hall on the Hattiesburg campus. Sigma Theta Tau is the only recognized Honor Society of Nursing, inviting members based on academic and professional excellence. Upsilon Theta Chapter 462, chartered in 2007, is sponsored by the Joseph and Nancy Fail School of Nursing at WCU.

Students from the school of nursing’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, the Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-to-BSN) program, and the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program were included in the ceremony.

Dr. Donna Learned, president of the Upsilon Theta Chapter, presided over the ceremony. She is an ’06 graduate of WCU’s MSN program, and teaches adjunct at WCU. Penny Lovitt, vice president of operations for Deaconess HomeCare and Hospice of Hattiesburg, served as the keynote speaker. Lovitt is currently president of the Mississippi Association for Home Care and on the Board of Trustees for the Mississippi Nurses Foundation.

A total of 128 persons, including guests and inductees, attended the ceremony. A luncheon followed in the Student Conference Center.
