WCU Presents Asbury Award to Medical Student from Poplarville

Hattiesburg, Miss., August 21, 2013 - Brittney J. Brown, a second-year William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM) student from Poplarville, recently received the Asbury Award for Academic Excellence. The Asbury Foundation of Hattiesburg endowed the award to recognize the student from the Asbury service area who achieves the highest grade point average during his/her freshman year.  Mr. William K. “Bill” Ray, president and CEO of the Asbury Foundation of Hattiesburg, Inc., presented Brown with a check to apply to her medical education and Dr. Tommy King, president of WCU, presented her with a medallion. The presentations were made during the 2013 White Coat Ceremony held in Smith Auditorium on August 17.

Preference is given to a student who intends to practice in Mississippi. Brown received a scholarship from the Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program in 2012, and plans to practice in Mississippi.
