WCU Named Star Chapter by Alpha Chi National Honor Society
Hattiesburg, Miss., March 11, 2013 - William Carey University’s chapter of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society was recently named a Star Chapter for the 2011-12 academic year.
Only 15 percent of the more than 300 Alpha Chi chapters receive this honor. In addition to individual academic standards, Alpha Chi members must meet group requirements to be recognized.
Membership into Alpha Chi is limited to no more than 10 percent of the junior, senior, and graduate class members, and WCU students must have at least a 3.7 Grade Point Average on the 4.0 scale to qualify for membership.
Among the requirements for becoming a Star Chapter, groups must send at least one sponsor and one student member to the annual regional/national convention and at least one of those students must present during the event. Members must also host at least one scholarly program on campus during the academic year.
Dr. Read Diket, professor of art and education and director of Center for Creative Scholars, serves as Alpha Chi advisor, and Dr. Randall Harris, professor of biology, and Dolores O’Mary, administrative assistant for language and literature, serve as co-advisors.
WCU and other Star Chapters will be formally recognized at the national convention in Nashville, Tenn., April 4-6.
