WCU’s Speech and Debate Team takes Second Place
William Carey University's Speech and Debate Team won second place overall at the 2012 Mardi Gras Alumni Classic Tournament held at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La., February 24-26. In March the team will compete in the Pi Kappa Delta National Speech and Debate Tournament in Kansas City. Last year, the team won second place overall at Nationals.
Members of the team are Tia Brown, a freshman from Hattiesburg; Michael Chancellor, a junior from Hattiesburg; Reggie Chapman, a freshman from Hattiesburg; Jake Dover, a freshman from Sardis; Renard Elliot, a freshman from Pascagoula; Dedrick Gordon, a freshman from Laurel; Sean Floyd, a freshman from Hattiesburg; Joseph Jones, a senior from Petal; Katherine Kendall, a senior from McIntosh, Ala.; Takira Laffitte, a freshman from Ocean Springs; Cassie Lasher, a junior from Lumberton; Zach Magee, a senior from Collins; Carl McInnis, a junior from Laurel; Meagan Messick, a sophomore from Hartford, Ala.; Destin Morris, a senior from Waynesboro; Anane Palmer, a freshman from Gulfport; Melvin Richardson, a junior from Laurel; Kendell Waldrop, a freshman from Petal; Molly Wilkinson, a sophomore from Pascagoula; and Thomas Williams, a graduate student from Leakesville. Jennifer Talbert, assistant professor of communication and director of forensics, coaches the team.
