Vogel Named WCU Associate Vice President
Hattiesburg, Miss., November 15, 2013 - Richard "Dick" Vogel of Hattiesburg has been recently named associate vice president for athletic and university advancement at William Carey University.
Vogel formerly served as associate director of athletics at The University of Southern Mississippi. Over the tenure of the 17 years he worked for USM, he also served as associate athletic director and executive director of the Eagle Club. Prior to working at USM, Vogel worked as a quality engineer at Sunbeam Corporation in Hattiesburg.
Before moving to Hattiesburg, Vogel retired from the U.S. Army after 21 years of service. His service included commanding three companies, serving as the operations officer for the first "Light Infantry Battalion" and upon completion of that assignment with the 2/9 infantry, going to Fort Benning where he wrote the first "Light Infantry Battalion" Operations Manual. He also served in Korea and Germany, and culminated his career with Desert Storm Operations where he served with FORSCOM (U.S. Army Forces Command). Vogel was a personnel strength manager for the XVIII Airborne Corps, as well.
Originally from Long Island, NY, Vogel obtained his bachelor's degree from the Virginia Military Institute and his master's degree from The University of Southern Mississippi.
