Carey Student Receives Accounting Scholarship
Devora Allen of Columbia, a senior business administration major with an accounting concentration at William Carey University, was recently awarded a $2,500 scholarship from the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants Education Foundation.
In a letter sent to Allen and School of Business officials, Cheryl Lee, chair of the society's Board of Governors, praised Allen's "outstanding record" in school. Lee also assured Allen of the society's willingness to help qualified young people enter the accounting profession.
Lee wrote that the scholarship is based on academic achievement, involvement in campus activities, financial need and recommendation of an accounting professor. Allen was recommended by Pamela Jones, an assistant professor of business at Carey.
"Devora is dedicated to becoming a consummate professional," said Jones. "She is an eager student and a pleasure to have in class."
