Lady Crusaders Fall in Opener
DECATUR, AL, May 20, 2008 - # 11 William Carey University didn’t have an answer for Point Loma Nazarene’s Melissa Gomez as the Lady Crusaders dropped the opening game of the 2008 NAIA Softball National Tournament falling to the Lady Sea Lions 4-0.
Gomez stifled the Carey bats all game long as she allowed only two hits and recorded seven strike outs in a complete game effort. On the offensive end Gomez broke open a scoreless game in the top of the third with a two out base loaded clearing double to put the Lady Sea Lions up 3-0.
Point Loma added the final run in the top of the seventh.
Devin King took the loss allowing nine hits and four earned runs in six inning of work. Shelly Berry doubled and Leah Kilpatrick singled to produced the only hits for the Lady Crusaders on the afternoon.
Carey returns to action at 9:30 as they take on Warner Southern College.
