Hattiesburg, Miss., April 7, 2014 - Three William Carey University music students received honors at the annual National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Conference and Competition held at Belhaven College in Jackson March 21-22. Emma Oberdick of Wadsworth, Ill., won 1st place in Sophomore Women. Emma is a student of Dr. Connie Roberts, professor of music. Austin Williams of Carriere won 3rd place in Junior Men and Stephen Kelly of Starkville won 4th place in Senior Men. Williams and Kelly are students of Graham Anduri.

Hattiesburg, Miss., April 3, 2014 - Dr. Janet Williams, RN, PhD, dean of the William Carey University School of Nursing, was recently appointed by Governor Phil Bryant to serve on the State Board of Nursing. She has served in the school of nursing for over 20 years as a teacher and administrator, and most recently, as dean.
“This is a distinct honor for Dr. Williams and for WCU,” said Dr. Tommy King, president of WCU. “The school of nursing has made tremendous strides in recent years.”
Hattiesburg, Miss., March 28, 2014 - The William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine and School of Nursing held “An Exploration of Interprofessional Education and Opportunities for Faculty Collaboration” in the Fail-Asbury Nursing Building on WCU’s Hattiesburg campus on March 21. Interprofessional education in the health sciences involves members of two or more professions learning with, from and about one another to improve collaboration and the delivery of high-quality care to patients.

Hattiesburg, Miss., March 26, 2014 - The Student Government Association (SGA) at William Carey University inducted officers for the 2014-2015 academic year on February 10 in the Sarah Gillespie Museum of Art. The SGA, advised by Emily Sheckells, student activities director, is led by a council elected by the student body. The SGA serves as the liaison between students and university administration, while offering students various activities and events to enhance their college experience.
Hattiesburg, Miss., March 11, 2014 - William Carey University’s School of Education hosted the ninth annual Young Authors Celebration (YAC) on March 7. There were approximately 500 students from 12 area elementary and middle schools at the event, along with their teachers and parent chaperons.
Hattiesburg, Miss., March 11, 2014 - The art department of William Carey University hosted the Fifth Annual High School Art Competition in the Lucile Parker Gallery (LPG) on March 1. The exhibition gave area high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to showcase their talents and compete for scholarships. Thirty-two students from the following high schools participated in the competition: Oak Grove High School, Perry Central High School, Presbyterian Christian High School, South Jones High School, and West Jones High School. Hattiesburg, Miss., March 11, 2014 - William Carey University’s nursing professors Felicia Browning and Karen Sicard will both be presenting posters at nursing conferences in April.
Browning, assistant professor of nursing and director of continuing education, will present at the Conference of the Transcultural Nursing Society (TCNS) in Mobile, Ala., on April 4. This is the first conference held by the Alabama-Mississippi chapter of TCNS, and the theme is “Transcultural Caring: Transcending Differences Embracing Commonalities.”
Hattiesburg, Miss., March 7, 2014 - Dr. LaRue Stephens of Biloxi, senior pastor at First Baptist Church of Long Beach, will serve as chair of the William Carey University Board of Trustees for 2014. Dr. Stephens served as an adjunct professor of religion at WCU for seven years and previously served on the Board of Trustees.
Hattiesburg, Miss., March 5, 2014 - The William Carey University Quality of Life (QOL) Project is a program that pairs students with adults with intellectual developmental disabilities to engage in activities designed to enrich their lives. Recently, the group made a trip to Memphis to visit the National Civil Rights Museum and tour Graceland. The program is funded through The Greater PineBelt Community Foundation’s Ann Morris Memorial Fund, which was set up by John Morris to honor the life of John’s late daughter, Ann, who was mentally disabled.

Hattiesburg, Miss., March 3, 2014 - William Carey University sends condolences to the Iler family. Michael Iler and his wife, Annissa, were in a car accident over the weekend. Michael passed away and Annissa is currently hospitalized. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
