Hattiesburg, Miss., October 8, 2013 - Dr. Rebekah Naylor, global health care consultant for Baptist Global Response, will serve as guest speaker for William Carey University’s chapel service at 9:25 a.m. on October 9 as part of Baptist Student Union’s (BSU) Global Opportunities Week. She will also speak at the BSU’s Mission Banquet on October 10 at 4:30 p.m.

Hattiesburg, Miss., October 3, 2013 - William Carey University hosted a Molecular Biology Training Workshop for area high school teachers on September 21 in Green Science Hall on the Hattiesburg campus. This free workshop, which used resources from the Princeton University Satellite Learning Center, was made possible through the generous support of the Princeton University Department of Molecular Biology and organized by Dr. Tyler Hodges, assistant professor of biological sciences at WCU.

Hattiesburg, Miss., October 2, 2013 - The William Carey University Theatre will present “Hamlet,” the classic Shakespearean tragedy, October 10 - 12 and 17 - 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Joe and Virginia Tatum Theatre in Hattiesburg. “Hamlet” was adapted for a contemporary audience by Tim Matheny, chair of Carey’s department of theatre and communication.

Hattiesburg, Miss., October 1, 2013 - William Carey University will host a reception to honor Miss Mississippi Chelsea Rick on October 18 from 2:30-4:00 p.m. in the Academic Building of the COM Medical Complex. Rick completed her first year of medical school at William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM) prior to the Miss Mississippi Pageant in July. The reception is open to the WCU Hattiesburg campus faculty, staff and students, as well as alumni.

Hattiesburg, Miss., September 26, 2013 - William Carey University will host a reception to celebrate the opening of “The South Mississippi Art Association Juried Exhibition: Watercolors, Pastels, and Sculptures” on Thursday, October 3, from 4:30 - 6 p.m. in the Lucile Parker Gallery located at 512 Tuscan Avenue.  The exhibit runs October 1 – 30.

Hattiesburg, Miss., September 26, 2013 - Yohanna Jiménez, adjunct professor of Spanish at William Carey University and former Mississippi Foreign Language Association (MFLA) president, has been named program director for the Southern Conference of Language Teaching (SCOLT) Executive Board. SCOLT is an organization that strives to advance the study of foreign languages and their literatures and cultures at all levels of instruction through conferences, workshops, research and information publications, scholarships, and networking opportunities.

Hattiesburg, Miss., September 25, 2013 - William Carey University has been notified by Institutional Research and Evaluation, Inc. of its inclusion in “America’s 100 Best College Buys.”   Carey is included in the 18th edition of the prestigious national listing based on measures of Carey’s quality academic program and lower than average cost. Other Mississippi schools listed are Belhaven University and the University of Mississippi.

Hattiesburg, Miss., September 24, 2013 - David “Charles” Laird III of Leakesville, a recent graduate of William Carey University, was recently accepted into a prestigious Ph.D. program in Roman Art and Archaeology at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom. Charles, who graduated in May, was WCU’s first M.A. graduate for the department of history and social sciences. His master’s thesis was the History of the Church in Late Antique Turkey, and he plans for his doctoral project to be an expansion of his thesis.

Hattiesburg, Miss., September 23, 2013 - The William Carey University School of Education will host the Gulf South Teaching Pedagogy Conference October 4-5 in Thomas Business Building (TBB) on the Hattiesburg Campus. This undergraduate/graduate research methods conference will focus on impacting classrooms by using pedagogy that promotes common core curriculum and learning mastery. The keynote speaker is Dr. Betsy Roberts, National Teacher of the Year (NTOY) in 2003.

Hattiesburg, Miss., September 19, 2013 - Dr. Paul Cotten, professor of music and psychology at William Carey University, along with WCU music therapy graduates Kathryn Boyer of Slidell, La., and Carol Winstead of Jackson, presented at the 14th Annual Conference on Alzheimer’s Disease and Psychiatric Disorders held by the Mississippi Department of Mental Health August 14-15 at the Mississippi State University Riley Center in Meridian.

Hattiesburg, Miss., September 18, 2013 - University of Mississippi Medical Center pediatrician Dr. Hannah Gay, who has gained worldwide recognition for finding a functional cure for an HIV-positive infant, presented the first University Lecture of the 2013-2014 academic year  at William Carey University on September 17 in Tatum Theatre. Following the presentation, Dr. Gay spoke to WCU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine students and conducted a question and answer session.
