Hattiesburg, Miss., July 5, 2012 - William Carey University hosted the Mississippi Baptist Convention HeartSong Camp June 26-30. Over 200 7th-12th graders attended the youth music and worship arts camp that is designed to assist them with discovering how to use their musical and artistic talents in worship and ministry. The camp includes a talent show, creative worship services, combined voice rehearsals, and workshops on voice, band, keyboard, guitar, art, banner making, drama, interpretive movement, and music reading.
Hattiesburg, Miss., July 5, 2012 - William Carey University president Dr. Tommy King has been elected to represent the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) on the Council of Presidents of the National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Dr. King will serve a three-year term and will represent the interests of the largest of the 24 conferences that make up NAIA. The SSAC includes 15 schools in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and South Carolina.
Students in William Carey University’s summer community nursing course held a Health Fair from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on June 21 in the Student Conference Center. The health fair included booths with information on breast cancer awareness, diabetic education, hypertension, nutrition, smoking cessation, and stress reduction. Tests were conducted on blood glucose and blood pressure, as well. Twenty-three nursing students participated in the planning and implementation of the health fair.
The William Carey University office of admissions will host Super Saturday for new students, both incoming freshmen and transfers, on July 14, from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. Super Saturday gives students and their parents a glimpse into university life and offers information on admissions, financial aid, housing and student life.
Hattiesburg, Miss., June 22, 2012 - Miss William Carey University Kenna Spiller previewed her competition wardrobe and talent during a campus trunk show on Thursday, June 21, in the Lucile Parker Gallery. Lacey Cofield Bolling, Miss WCU 2006, served as emcee for the trunk show, describing competition outfits and giving background information on the Miss Mississippi pageant. Spiller will represent Carey June 27-30 at the 2012 Miss Mississippi Pageant in Vicksburg.
Hattiesburg, Miss., June 18, 2012 - Sixty-one nursing students from the three William Carey University campuses were formally inducted into the Upsilon Theta Chapter 462 of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing on June 16 in Wilkes Dining Hall on the Hattiesburg campus. Sigma Theta Tau is the only recognized Honor Society of Nursing, inviting members based on academic and professional excellence. Upsilon Theta Chapter 462, chartered in 2007, is sponsored by the Joseph and Nancy Fail School of Nursing at WCU.

Hattiesburg, Miss., June 7, 2012 - Three William Carey University students will compete in the 2012 Miss Mississippi pageant in Vicksburg June 27-30.
The students include Miss William Carey University Kenna Spiller, Miss Riverbend Julie Falgout, and Miss Pine Belt Shelby Ryals.
Spiller, a sophomore elementary education major from Petal, will present her platform of “Smiling Through Scoliosis,” which is designed to educate young children and teenagers about the disease. Her talent is playing the piano.
