Officials from William Carey University and the New Hope Foundation have signed a memorandum of understanding establishing a center that will provide specialized educational services for youth with autism and training for local teachers on the Tradition campus in Biloxi.

Officials from Linyi University in Linyi, China, visited and toured the William Carey University Hattiesburg campus on May 19 as part of an ongoing relationship between the two universities.
 
During the visit, the Linyi delegation toured multiple campus attractions, including the Center for the Study of the Life and Work of William Carey and the College of Osteopathic Medicine, and met with university officials to affirm and discuss the universities' continuing partnership.

The second class of the William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine, the second medical school in the state of Mississippi and the first school of osteopathic medicine, graduated during commencement exercises in Smith Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus on May 23.

William K. "Bill" Ray, a Hattiesburg businessman and community leader, received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree during William Carey University commencement exercises on May 16.
 
The honorary doctorate, awarded by the Carey Board of Trustees at their May 7 meeting, was presented to Ray by Dr. Tommy King, university president. Ray was assisted in his doctoral hooding by Charles Pickering Sr., a retired federal judge and chairman of the Carey Board of Trustees, and Dr. Scott Hummel, university provost.

William Carey University will hold General Registration Day for summer and fall classes at both the Hattiesburg campus and the Tradition campus in Biloxi from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on May 29.
 
Students will be able to register for classes, meet with academic advisors and tour their respective campus. In addition to General Registration Day, students may also register by appointment Monday through Friday by contacting their campus admissions office.

Carey Dinner Theatre, "Mississippi's unique dinner theatre," celebrates its 40th season in 2015 with two musicals in June and July at the Joe and Virginia Tatum Theatre on the Hattiesburg campus of William Carey University.

The William Carey University School of Education is offering a free ACT camp for area high school students from June 1-5 at the Hattiesburg campus.
 
The camp, which is sponsored by Mississippi Power Company, The First Bank and the Hattiesburg High School Athletic Booster Club, has 50 available slots. Students are expected to attend the entire camp, which will meet from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. each day during the week.

Four William Carey University students were inducted into Alpha Gamma Gamma, the William Carey University chapter of the Sigma Tau Delta English honor society, on May 1.
 
Inductees include Alyssa Ward of Hattiesburg; Hailey Nowell of Hattiesburg; Marissa James of Hattiesburg; and Nicole Carr of Taylorsville.

Eleven William Carey University theatre students were honored at the 2015 Theatre Awards Dinner, an annual event recognizing the contributions and talents of theatre majors and students of other majors who participate in theatre throughout the academic year. 
 
Chris Permenter of Hattiesburg was named Most Valuable Player. This is the theatre’s most prestigious award and is voted on by the students.

Local engineer Kyle Wallace was honored as the recipient of the Small Business Leadership Award at the 25th annual award luncheon co-hosted by William Carey University and the Area Development Partnership at Southern Oaks House and Gardens in Hattiesburg on May 6.
