The William Carey University Theatre will host professional puppeteer Peter Zapletal and Puppet Arts Theatre’s production of “The Adventure of Momotaro the Peach Boy” at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 23 in Smith Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus.

As a result of strong growth in health-related programs, the William Carey University Board of Trustees recently approved the creation of the College of Health Sciences.
The new academic unit will include several existing programs at the university, including the School of Nursing, the Department of Physical Therapy, the health information management program and the health education and administration program. Dr. Janet Williams, dean of Carey's nursing school, will serve as dean of the new college.

The Cobbler, the student newspaper of William Carey University, earned several awards during the 2014-2015 Better Newspaper Contest – Student Division, hosted by the Mississippi Press Association Education Foundation.

Sixteen William Carey University students were inducted into the Mississippi Beta chapter of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society on April 15.
Membership into Alpha Chi is limited to no more than 10 percent of the junior, senior and graduate class members. Carey students must have at least a 3.70 grade point average on the 4.0 scale to qualify for membership.

William Carey University honored active duty service members and veterans during Military Appreciation Day sponsored by the School of Business Leadership Institute on April 11.
Approximately 60 area veterans, including a large group from the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, attended the event, which was held between games of a baseball doubleheader versus Martin Methodist College. The honorees and their families received free admission to both games and were served lunch catered by Newk's Eatery, Raising Cane's and Coca-Cola.

D.R.E.A.M. of Hattiesburg Inc. will host the "Substance Abuse and Your Congregation" conference from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on April 23 in the Kresge and Glass rooms of Thomas Business Building at the Hattiesburg campus of William Carey University.

The William Carey University Student Art Show and Competition, featuring artwork by students from both the Hattiesburg and Tradition campuses, will be on display at the Kress Live in Biloxi from April 16-30.

The William Carey University Tradition campus in Biloxi is hosting a special art exhibit by area artist Kathryn McCann through April 30.
McCann graduated from Carey in 2011 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She went on to graduate from Mississippi College with a Master of Education degree in 2013 and a Master of Fine Arts degree in 2014. McCann's work consists primarily of mixed media and incorporates her loves of watercolor painting, papermaking, printmaking and ceramics.

William Carey University has again been named a Champions of Character Five-Star Institution by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
The NAIA Champions of Character program focuses on five core values, including integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership, and works to instill these values through programs for student-athletes and professional development for coaches and staff.

The William Carey University Office of Admissions will host Early Registration Day for the summer and fall terms at both the Hattiesburg campus and the Tradition campus in Biloxi from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on April 24.
During Early Registration Day, both freshman and transfer students can meet with admissions personnel and faculty advisors, visit key offices, register for classes and tour the university.

Chase Crocker of Ocean Springs, a senior music education major at William Carey University, was recently selected as the first recipient of the Michael Iler Memorial Music Scholarship.
The scholarship was established by an anonymous donor in memory of Michael Iler of Vancleave, a Carey music student who died in March 2014 as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident caused by an alleged drunk driver. Michael Iler's wife and fellow Carey student Annissa Iler survived the crash but suffered serious injuries.

For the seventh consecutive year, William Carey University has received a perfect score of 3.0 on the Financial Responsibility Index released by the U.S. Department of Education.
For-profit and non-profit institutions of higher learning are required to annually submit audited financial statements to the Department of Education to demonstrate they are maintaining the standards of financial responsibility necessary to participate in Title IV, or federal student aid.
