The William Carey University Theatre will present “Herbert and the Magic Mirror,” an original play for children by Jeanna Graves, at 7 p.m. on December 10-12 in the Joe and Virginia Tatum Theatre on the Hattiesburg campus.
The play is about cousins Shelby and Robert as they spend the afternoon with a “strange little guy” who comes out of their grandmother’s old mirror. Herbert likes to play games, tell jokes, learn new words and have fun. With friend Susie, they learn not to judge people.

William Carey University recently welcomed a guest professor with connections to the college co-founded by Carey’s namesake nearly 200 years ago in Serampore, India.

The William Carey University forensics team recently placed first overall, winning in both speech and debate competition, and first in individual events at the Red River Swing Tournament at Louisiana State University in Shreveport.

Meghan Gagliano of Hattiesburg was recently awarded the William Carey University Student Foundation Scholarship for 2015.
Gagliano, an English and intercultural studies major, was selected for the scholarship from a pool of more than 200 applicants. Lydia Ulrich, president of the Student Foundation, said Gagliano was awarded the scholarship based on participation in activities both on the Carey campus and within the community.

William Carey University student-athletes Larson Barkurn of Petal and Hope Biggs of Clinton recently received David M. Halbrook Certificates for Academic Achievement Among Athletes.
Barkurn and Biggs were recognized during Carey’s weekly chapel service on November 11 by Dr. Tommy King, Carey president, and by their coaches, Bobby Halford and Jeff Mixon.

A familiar face is the new head coach of the men’s soccer team at William Carey University.
Barry Farrell of Hattiesburg accepted the position on November 10 after previously serving as interim head coach. Farrell has been affiliated with the Carey program for over 14 years, first as a player and then as an assistant coach.
Farrell is a native of Dublin, Ireland, and was recruited to play soccer at Carey in 2001.

The William Carey University Sarah Ellen Gillespie Museum of Art will host the “All Creatures Great and Small” exhibit, a selection of paintings from various Mississippi artists featuring animals, from November 16 through January 18.

The William Carey University Lucile Parker Gallery will host an exhibit of contemporary abstract art by Gretchen Beck, a professional artist and former art faculty member at Concordia University in Irvine, California, from November 10 through December 17.
The opening reception will be held from 4:30 until 6 p.m. on November 10 at the gallery, which is located at 512 Tuscan Avenue in Hattiesburg.

Thirty William Carey University nursing students were inducted into the Carey chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing during the annual induction ceremony and luncheon on October 24 at the Hattiesburg campus.
