Hattiesburg, Miss. January 16, 2013 - Dr. Rizwan Hamid, associate professor of pediatrics and cancer genetics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., will speak at the William Carey Collegium on January 17 at 4 p.m. in the Kresge Room of Thomas Business Building. Dr. Hamid will present a talk titled, “The Impending Genetic Revolution and How It Will Change Your Life.” The Carey Collegium is sponsored by the Mississippi Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi National College Honor Society, an organization for students who have achieved top academic honors.

Hattiesburg, Miss., January 10, 2013 - The Lucile Parker Art Gallery at William Carey University will host a reception to celebrate the opening of the exhibit “Transformation: Three Women, the Alchemy of Friendship: Clay, Paper, and Fiber” on Thursday, January 17, from 5-6 p.m. The exhibit, which is on display January 14-31 (except January 21 for a holiday), features ceramics, works on paper, and fiber art by Claudia Cartee, Barbara-Ann Carver-Hunt, and Amanda Lovitt-Call. The reception and exhibit are open to the public.

Hattiesburg, Miss., December 20, 2012 - William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM) student Whitney Danjack “Dan” Lynch of Seminary recently received The Lois S. McKenzie Humanitarian COM Restricted Scholarship. Chosen by the dean of the WCUCOM, the scholarship is awarded to a top second - year WCUCOM student from South Mississippi who shows an interest in practicing medicine in Mississippi and working with the elderly. The scholarship was established by Lois S. McKenzie’s son, Joel McKenzie of Foxworth.
Hattiesburg, Miss., December 20, 2012 - William Carey University inducted 23 new members, all students on the Hattiesburg campus, into the Mississippi Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi National College Honor Society on December 19. Membership into Alpha Chi is limited to no more than 10 percent of the junior, senior, and graduate class members, and WCU students must have at least a 3.70 Grade Point Average on the 4.0 scale to qualify.

The awards were presented during the Halbrook Awards Luncheon held at the Hattiesburg Lake Terrace Convention Center in October as part of the 79th annual Mississippi Association of Colleges and Universities (MAC) Conference hosted by WCU.

Hattiesburg, Miss., December 5, 2012 - Dr. Orlando R. Burt, senior pastor of Word of Faith Christian Center in Hattiesburg, was the guest speaker for William Carey University’s Christian Leadership Lecture on December 5 in Smith Auditorium.
Dr. Burt founded the Word of Faith Christian Foundation, a non-profit organization, and from that Word of Faith Christian Academy was established.
Hattiesburg, Miss., December 5, 2012 - William Carey University will be hosting an introduction to dance and musical theatre workshop with Jonathan Sharp from January 7-11 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in Carey’s Smith Auditorium in the Thomas Fine Arts Center. Non-Carey students, ages 16-25, are welcome to attend. Cost of the workshop will be $200 for non-credit students. Students do not need prior dance experience to participate.
